So today started like any other day. I got up at 520 AM, got ready for work, worked a full day, took my younger sister home from school and then the phone calls began.....
"Are you still at school?" "Did you make it out ok?" "Did you know that McDowell is on fire?" "The fire is in the auditorium, right near your classroom." -----complete numbness.......
I honestly was having a hard time processing everything but I made some phone calls, rushed down to the school and that is when reality set in.
My girlfriend Emily met me there and we found out what happened right from the principal. (she was the teacher in our room last year) The first fire was found in the auditorium, right across from our classroom. The curtains were on fire and there was a ton of smoke damage in the auditorium and in our classrooms. Other fires were later discovered later on. One in the basement and one further down the hall. They were treating it like a crime scene and most likely would be cancelling school.
They later found a black box that was suspicious. They called the bomb squad. They then found a student in the cafeteria.....they arrested him and they are questioning him. The black box turned out to be nothing....thank God. They are still trying to find the causes or how they were started. They did cancel school.
It's just a sureal moment in time right now and even though you should feel somewhat safe in your work place, we are not. we are all subject to horrible crimes and its just how we handle that will determind our sanity! I am thankful that that student waited for school to be over to start the fires. Yes its a terrible act but we are all thankful for that. I am thankful that no one was hurt and that they did find someone to question.
I now get to see Addyson in her halloween parade at school tomorrow and enjoy being her mom! She hasn't been feeling to good but she is on the upswing of feeling better. Her molars are really pushing through and its messing with her sinuses. Her poor eyes were swollen and her upper cheeks. She was having green ick coming from her eyes so we have been using her antibiotic ointment to help and it really has. A little bit of a running nose but nothing like a full blown cold would give. She will have fun tomorrow though! She loves her friends so much. She talks about them all day at home!
Love
