Addy had her 4 year well check last week. Yes she turned 4 in March however I put off scheduling her 3 year visit and they had to go 1 year from the last round of shots. Anyways.....her appointment went really well. She surprisingly she wasn't in the negatives for weight!
4 years:
34.9 pounds (42%)
41 inches tall (70%)
She had a hearing test which she passed and a vision test. Her right eye was off just a little but they don't do anything the first time they check it. There could be error in the test or it could have been that she was distracted. If at her next appt. there is a change we will make an actual eye appointment to have it looked into further. Of course if she complains of something in the mean time then we will get it looked at.
The dr. went over bike riding and helmet safety, checked her spine, asked if she could hop on one foot, how she liked daycare, what her favorite activities were, and the importance of trying new foods. This is hard for us since she really has been knocking things off the yummy list for awhile now. We have been talking about how important it is to eat meats and healthy food so she can grow and learn new things. That going into pre-k means you eat good foods. She doesn't eat terribly but she lacks in the protein department.
We talked about typical 4 year old behaviors and how she has been acting lately. Basically, baby or no baby, she would still be pushing boundaries and protesting a bit. Lately we have been talking about making good choices and bad choices. We acknowledge both but really try to reinforce the good choices that she has been making. She likes talking in those terms a lot! She gives me the thumbs up too! Another new thing I do with her is when she is angry or really upset, I tell her to count to 10 and then she takes 3 deep breaths. It helps A LOT! It's ok to be mad, I get that, but it's not okay to act out because you are mad.
She did have to have 4 shots but they are combination shots so it was just 2. The first one she tensed up really bad and it bled a lot. Later on it bruised terribly and is still currently healing. I felt so bad. The 2nd one was a perfect shot...literally.... and she didn't bruise from that one but she was upset.
One thing that warmed my heart during that whole ordeal was not only did she seek me for comfort she reached for her brother's hand. I had him in the carseat up on the bench next to her. She wanted his love and support. She felt calm by holding his hand and by looking at him. It made me realize just why I wanted to give them eachother in this world.
After her appointment she got to pick out a sticker and then I stopped and got her a smoothie from dairy queen. She was super excited to get a smoothie for being a big girl at her appointment!
Love
Jamie Lynne
